Gigwise Readers Slam Amy Winehouse's MTV Performance

They want her to get help...

Share

Gigwise readers have reacted with a mixture of anger and despair at Amy Winehouse’s slurred performance at the MTV Europe Music Awards last night (November 1st).

A last minute addition to the line-up, Winehouse gave a nervous and virtual inaudible performance of the title track from her second album, ‘Back To Black,’ that shocked the huge crowds in Munich.

Sherrie got in touch with us to say that she watched the performance with her hand “firmly over my mouth.”

She added: “My mother was asking me if Amy only knows the chorus. Her backing singers looked silly, dancing with such enthusiasm! What was the point? It was excruciating to watch someone so talented perform so badly!”

Yvonne was similarly shocked by the performance and like other readers who got in touch with us, she thought that Winehouse was initially singing in German.

“V. unprofessional,” she stated. “I think the producers should have made sure she was up to the job be4 they gave her the go ahead to perform. Such a waste of really good talent!!!”

Despite many of our readers claiming that the singer look like she was “drugged up to the eye-balls,” almost all have expressed their sadness at the state of the critically acclaimed star.

Ariel said: “So sad. One of my favourite artists and I felt so sorry for her throughout the preformance. She needs help and I truly hope she gets better, for the sake of music! Amy is a BRILLIANT musician and talent.”

Megan even thought that Winehouse made Britney Spears recent career flop at the MTV Video Music Awards look professional.

“I’ve seen her perform three times this year, and that was the worst,” she added.

You can take a look at Winehouse last night in our gallery, HERE.

Meanwhile, we still want to hear about what you think of Winehouse’s performance and we’ll continue to feature the best comments.

  • I agree with Sherrie (Smelly Trabs on the forum I think?) that the dancers should have moderated their enthusiasm somewhat. A less enthusiastic dance would have been appropriate in the circumstances. Silly men.

  • Obviously the backup singers are not the ones to blame for what happen. I can’t even imagine how they felt singing something that didn’t seem to be what the lead singer was ”singing”. Amy Winehouse looked to be completely lost there, it was bad. She is a great singer/songwriter/... and we can only hope it’s better next time. She can do much better and she has to.

  • I recently saw Amy perform in Oslo and this performance came as no surprise. What I do find surprising is that no-one in her team (managers, family, record label etc.) take her addiction seriously enough to get her off stage and into serious treatment. She has such talent and it is devastating to see her as little more than a rigid shell. The backing singers do a great job and I imagine they are there to take some of the focus off Amy - go figure.

  • the sad truth is that no-one around Amy will help her as long as she makes money for them. She cut a pretty tragic figure in Munich - I hope someone steps in before it’s too late.
