Music bit-torrent site OiNK, which was recently shut down by British and Dutch police, is set to be re-launched as BOiNK.
The re-launch is being managed by fellow bit-torrent site The Pirate Bay, which was also once shut down.
They say that original OiNK users will have to re-upload their file torrents to the new site and hence fill up the new servers.
OiNK was shut down on October 23 after a joint operation between Interpol, Dutch and British police after a report by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) claimed the site had leaked 60 pre-release albums in 2007 alone.
The site reportedly had up to 180,000 members and was run by Allan Ellis, a 24 year old IT consultant for Virgin Media.
The site has now been replaced by a picture of a plate of waffles which links through to a page that suggests alternatives to OiNK.

- I hope this new site gets shut down. It’s an abomination of artist’s rights and should be stamped out immediately!

- I’m an artist who benefitted from oink. More people know my band’s music because they found it on oink which resulted in a very succesful tour. The above comment was by a music industry scumbag.

- What people don’t understand is that OiNK was the top place on the internet to get amazingly high-quality downloads of the rarest of rare albums...and if you had a rare album to contribute, you did.
The point of OiNK wasn’t illegal downloading or violating the rights of artists (side note: record companies violate these rights much more than OiNK ever did)--the point of OiNK was people who genuinely enjoyed music getting together to discuss and enjoy music.

- Yeah and Trent Reznor admitting to having an oft-used account at OiNK shows how much the artists hate illegal file-sharing.

There are shops which sell music, get yourselves some fresh air, socialise with other people and go to HMV.
