The daughters of Johnny Cash have launched have launched a fight to find out why they have received no royalties from his hit ‘Ring OF Fire’.
Rosanne, Kathleen, Cindy and Tara Cash – daughter’s by the country legend’s first wife Vivian – have hired lawyers in California to investigate the matter after claiming they have not recieved any money from the royalties which could be millions of dollars.
The lawyer, intellectual property expert Eric Bjorgum, told the New York Daily News: "His only son (John) has received the lion's share (from Ring of Fire)."
John is Cash’s only child by June Carter Cash, whom he shared the copyright with for ‘Ring Of Fire’ alongside Merle Kilgore.
In her book ‘I Walked The Line’, Vivian Cash wrote that Johnny Cash had told her of the track: , "I'm going to give June half credit on a song I just wrote called 'Ring of Fire.'
“When she asked why, he answered, 'She needs the money and I feel sorry for her.'"
Lawyers for the Cash estate told fancast.com: "We find it noteworthy that their authorship has been unchallenged for over 40 years, and was only questioned after the deaths of Kilgore and the Cashes."
