There’s something very interesting about Robyn - something that steps her out of the popstar circle and makes her different and exciting. On the basis of ‘Handle Me,’ evidence points to her lyrics. The chorus recites the words; “But you’re a selfish narcissistic psycho, freaking bootlicking Nazi creep”- slightly unexpected to say the least. You could even compare the words to Radiohead’s “kicking squealing Gucci little piggy” - impossible to make up yourself yet they make so much sense when you hear them. Everything else that exists in Robyn’s new single is just nice, friendly and chirpy, but those lyrics set her apart from everything else pop that we’ve heard this year. Thrilling.
Released 29/10/07 on Konichiwa Records.
