A man has been arrested after vandals tied a noose around the neck of a statue of the rapper Tupac on Saturday (October 20th).
The incident is one of a number of “hate crimes” that police say have taken place at the Tupac Centre For The Arts in DeKalb County, Georgia over recent weeks.
It’s reported that in another incident vandals wrote derisive remarks about Hurricane Katrina and the artists’ record labels on the statue.
According to the County Sheriff's Office the incidents are being investigated as “hate crimes,” reports TWN.
Speaking about the incident on Saturday, Tupac's mother thanked people for “their prayers and support.”
She told allhiphop: “Although our hearts are temporarily in pain, our spirits have already forgiven the perpetrators.
"Hate comes in all colours and genders therefore we will use this act of hate and ignorance to bring our community together and to pray for the healing of those who harbour such feelings."
No further details have been released about the man who has been taken into custody.
