Boom boom boom boom
Clap clap clap clap
Clunk roll clunk roll
‘We’ve got a time bomb, nah nah nah’
‘Timbomb ticking, tick tick tick’
Thump thump thump
Beck appears to have been taking line dancing lessons from The Rapture of late, bringing an indie disco inspired track to his extensive left of centre/off beat back body. Perhaps his backbone has shrivelled back up into itself, on producing a more ‘mainstream’ and repetitious record; perhaps he’s bored of being a pallid chameleon of musically diverse influences, perhaps he does want to make himself some money; and although indie disco is not the most obvious directional digression, it’s not the worst call he could have made. Whilst your monkeying around with Beck’s Sonido Nuevo, and clashing the pans with wooden spools, remember the fun of ‘Odelay’ was that it made you move. How many of Beck’s more recent records can that be said of?
