Expecting much worse when I saw the overly cheesy single cover photo, I was pleasantly surprised by this melodic and soulful down tempo number by Alice McLaughlin. Yes it could easily be on the Dawson’s Creek soundtrack and yes it is a bit like Bat for Lashes just not so positively obscure. However having said that, this single definitely has the tunefulness to grow on you after a few listens with its calming mellowness, pagan vibe and the atmospheric, wintery feel. Overall, 'Dolly Figured' is a bit standard. Nothing memorable happens throughout the song and whilst waiting for something amazing to come, you get the feeling that Alice McLaughlin is a promising talent, who is not quite there yet.
