This latest release is another of Maps’ gorgeous songs with gentle echoing vocals and catchy melodies under pinned by strong and steady drum and bass lines. ‘To The Sky’ blossoms beautifully from a gentle but balanced start that lays down a firm sound which really soars in an almost Arcade Fire way through the vocals and guitars to a climax that will have you caught in a sense of emotion. It really is a song that is very soft and slightly sad but is weighted down well by the actual music itself which gives it enough weight to really make it pack a loving punch. The Loving Hand re-mix is best avoided completely if you love the original song as it becomes some odd trance like song that doesn’t do the original much justice.
Released 08/10/07 on Mute Records.
