We’re not rich enough to normally be able to place lavish bets but right now we’re feeling particularly confident. We bet you that you’ll never hear a Matinee Club interview or review where somewhere there isn’t a reference to Madonna. Why? Well Madonna flows through this electro-pop-dance trio like blood through your own veins. From Emma Cooke’s vocals – which sound like some kind of mash-up of Madonna circa ‘Vogue’ and Madonna circa ‘American Pie’ - to the type of swirling synths that will make underage kids in your local Whetherspoons think they’re on holiday in the party capital of Magaluf again, it’s hard to get Madonna out of your head. The real Madge might have become a serial adopter now, but there’s not enough about Matinee Club to make us choose 'Discotheque Francais' over anything by the real thing. So then, who fancies a bet?
