Sex Pistols’ John Lydon has told Pete Doherty to pay “deeper attention” to his problems with drugs.
Lydon has experienced the affect of drugs first hand when Sex Pistols’ bass player Sid Vicious died of a drugs overdose in 1979.
The Sex Pistols frontman told the Sun: “I wish they paid deeper attention. People keep asking me about Pete and it’s unfortunate. Pete’s got to realise that Sid was a tragedy and that’s not an image to be wanting.
"You can get trapped in the drugs thing. They are only something you should use for entertainment and recreation!”
Lydon also categorically denied that Doherty should see drugs as a way of life.
“It’s certainly not a way of life and it is certainly not going to help him have any kind of future. He knows but he’s trapped in this publicity hype that he can’t break out of,” said Lydon.
Meanwhile, as previously reported on Gigwise, Sex Pistols are to reform for a series of shows later this year.
