The ongoing feud over the songwriting rights to Procol Harum’s biggest hit ‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale’ has gone back to court again.
Frontman Gary Brooker is hoping to overturn a ruling made in court last year that supported organist Matthew Fisher’s claim that he came up with the seminal riff in the song.
After originally seeking half the royalties, the court ruled that Fisher was entitled to a 40% stake in the song – a decision that Brooker is now hoping to reverse at the London court.
Fisher’s team had argued that he failed to bring the matter to court earlier because he didn’t want to jeopardise his position in the band which has continued touring over the years.
Gary Brooker faced a massive legal bill of about £500,000 after the trial.
