An exhibition of Sir Elton John’s personal collection featuring a controversial image children has been taken off public display at a Tyneside gallery.
Sir Elt personally requested for the show at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead to be withdrawn after it became embroiled in controversy when police came in to remove an image.
The photo which was thought to be in breach of pornography laws, was just one of 149 by photographer Nan Goldin. The ‘Thanksgiving’ show has been pulled after just nine days.
A spokesperson for the gallery said: "Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art at the request of the Sir Elton John Photography Collection has closed the exhibition, Thanksgiving, by Nan Goldin.
"After the removal of one image from the series it was no longer possible for Baltic to exhibit the collection of works as the artist intended and therefore Baltic is sympathetic to Sir Elton John's request and supportive of the decision."
