‘The Midnight Choir’ is a happy little ditty that shows The Thrills at their unique best. Sounding quite like Arcade Fire this is an upbeat number that makes you want to get up and shuffle your feet to the light riffs that punctuate the song and compliment the fragile vocals perfectly. What’s interesting though is that there’s a layer of tight guitars and vocals that just glides over the echoing stadium like quality of the drums giving the overall feel of a song that swells up into a great tune. It’s a very different style of music to what’s clogging the charts at the moment and this is just another gorgeous sugar spun indie example that proves The Thrills were never ones for following trends.
Released 29/10/07 on Virgin.
