The jury of the Phil Spector trial have failed to reach a verdict so a mistrial has been declared.
The jurors were ten to two in favour of convicting the producer, but in failing to reach a unanimous decision the judge in Los Angeles discharged them.
After the lengthy trial, the members of the jury took 16 days to come to some respective decisions. On September 18 they voted seven to five in favour of convicting Spector.
Prosecutors now say they are going to appeal for a retrial. Spector had been charged with second degree murder – different from first degree which requires proof and of intent – and faced 15 years to life imprisonment.
Spector was charged with murdering actress Lana Clarkson at his Hollywood mansion. His defence team claimed it was suicide.
Expect to see plenty more bizarre haircuts if it goes to a retrial.
