Iggy Pop is to receive the Freddie Mercury Lifetime Achievement Award at the Vodafone Live Music Awards later this month.
Judges have voted unanimously for Pop to win the award - which will presented to him at the ceremony on September 19th – “for creating some of the most iconic rock songs in recent history.”
Pop’s career has spanned five decades and he is heralded by many for bringing garage rock and American heavy metal to international attention.
Speaking about the accolade, Pop said: “The Live show is the real nitty gritty baby, and when it’s done well, it is the most potent form of entertainment and politics. It is evolution made manifest and without it, we would all die or wish we were.
“I want to thank Vodafone, I want to thank its UK panel. I want to thank the fans that put me up on the stage for so long.”
This year’s awards ceremony at London’s Brompton Hall will feature performances from Stereophonics, The Enemy and Kate Nash.
