Blur Star To Judge MobileACT Talent Contest

Blur bassist Alex James and Simon Gavin, Head of A&M Records UK, are set to join Jo Whiley on the panel of judges who will decide the winner of the MobileACT unsigned competition.

During the first auditions the panel of experts will also be joined by a guest judge including Lily Allen, Mutya Buena, Calvin Harris and Just Jack.

The competition, hosted by Alex Zane on channel 4, is looking to find Britain’s best new unsigned talent and has whittled down over 1,700 hopeful applicants to a shortlist of 25 bands.

Over twelve weeks, viewers and the acts themselves will be able to interact exclusively with the show via their mobile phone and the internet thanks to Sony Ericsson and Orange.

As previously reported, the winner of this years competition  will receive a record deal with a major label and it has now been decided that the deal will be provided by A&M records, whose artists include ‘The Police’, ‘The Carpenters’ and ‘Patrick Wolf’.
