    The Steers - 'Rewind Repeat'

Already winners of the Diesel U Music Awards, The Steers are the latest “Next Big Thing” to survey the musical landscape before releasing their debut effort. ‘Rewind Repeat ‘sounds like a particularly nasty collision between ’Alright’ era Supergrass and the Automatic, the sort of bouncing joyful poppy number that’ll be blasted out of radios non-stop. It’s easy to understand why they’ve whipped marketing men into a frenzy as this suggests a knack for catchy guitar pop. Yet, for all its youthful energy, there’s nothing that special here. While decent, the track simply seems to hit a wall halfway through and instead of breaking through it simply falls down and goes round in a circle.

B-side ’Go’ is a more urgent, driving number, with plenty of enthusiasm behind it. However, like the A-side, it fits into being a solid tune rather than a great one. The Steers have energy and promise but they don’t quite have the world conquering tunes yet.

    Released 17/09/07 on Kids
