Late opera singer Luciano Pavarotti looks set to make a postumous appearance in the singles Top Ten following his death on Thursday.
The star's classic track 'Nessun Dorma' has seen a flurry of downloads over the weekend, and industry experts say the song could reach number one next week if the trend continues.
HMV's Gennaro Castaldo says, "It really would be wonderful if Nessun Dorma could become the first classical piece of music to ever make it to the top of the official singles charts.
“Not only would it be a fitting tribute to Pavarotti’s genius, but it would acknowledge the great affection in which he was held by the public across the UK and Ireland.”
The track originally made number two in 1990 after being used by the BBC as the theme music for their Italia '90 World Cup coverage when Sir Bobby's brave boys narrowly lost out to the Germans because we can't take penalties.
