Former Van Halen bass player Michael Anthony has revealed that he heard he’d been sacked by the band via the internet.
Anthony last played with the band in 2004 but has since been replaced by Eddie Van Halen’s sixteen year old son Wolfgang.
Some fans have pledged to boycott the upcoming reunion tour with David Lee Roth while others have said they will wear t-shirts sporting the slogan ‘Where Is Michael Anthony?’
When asked how heard about the sacking he told Rolling Stone: “Probably like everybody else, I found out on the Internet and through word of mouth.
“I can understand that he wants his kid to play with him. If I had a kid like that, I’d like to have him perform with me, too.
“It was kind of funny when I first heard about it being a Van Halen ‘reunion’.”
Anthony also said that Van Halen had tried to prevent him from playing on the 2004 tour and he forced to sign a contract at the end of it stating he was relinquishing all his claims to part of the band.
