Klaxons Win The Nationwide Mercury Music Prize

Klaxons have won this year’s Nationwide Mercury Music Prize for their debut album, ‘Myths Of The Near Future.’

The band fought off stiff competition from bookies favourites the Arctic Monkeys and Amy Winehouse to pick up the award and £20,000 prize.

Accepting the award from the show’s host, Jools Holland, the band were visibly elated and overcome by the accolade.

“This really is too much, it just means so much to us," they said while excepting the award. "A year ago today we were in the studio recording this album and we were watching the Arctic Monkeys step up and thinking we’ve got to make a great album.”

Speculation was mounting throughout the build-up to the announcement that Amy Winehouse would capture the award for her second album, ‘Back To Black.’

However, it was to be the Klaxons night – with the band eating the microphone before leaving the stage.

    • Rubbish! Amy Winehouse, Bat For Lashes, Fion Regan, Artic Monkies all had better albums. As i’ve said elsewhere, Bat For Lashes were robbed!
