Klaxons bassist Jamie Reynolds has said that the Nationwide Mercury Music Prize could possibly be turning into a “regular awards ceremony.”
Speaking to Gigwise on the red carpet ahead of tonight’s awards ceremony at the Grosvenor Hotel in London, the bassist questioned whether the prize still had its original purpose.
“The Mercury’s have always been about music and whatever records are forward thinking,” explained Reynolds. “We’ll see what happens tonight but over the last few years it seems to be turning into... a regular awards ceremony... We'll see what happens though.”
Klaxons are nominated for their debut album, ‘Myths Of The Near Future,’ and Reynolds said that if they win, the band will donate the prize money to charity.
“We want to donate the money to a very worthy cause – we haven’t considered who it is yet but we want to give money to something interesting, we want to inject a spark somewhere.”
Stay tuned to Gigwise for all the latest action from tonight’s ceremony.
