Dizzee Rascal has tipped the Arctic Monkeys for the top prize at tonight’s (September 4th) Nationwide Mercury Music Prize in London.
Despite being nominated himself for his album, ‘Maths + English,’ the rapper told Gigwise on the red carpet: “I wouldn’t mind Arctic monkeys to win because they’re on my album and they’re my mates so it’d be good to see them win.”
Rascal – who won the award in 2003 for his debut album ‘Boy In Da Corner’ - is currently the outsider for tonight’s prize with the bookmakers but said that it was just nice to be nominated for the award once again.
“I think I’ve got as much chance as anyone else,” Rascal told Gigwise. “The fact I’ve got this far is a good thing, if I don’t win it’s all good man - I’m flattered and proud that I’m here.”
Stay tuned to Gigwise for all the latest gossip from tonight’s awards bash. You’ll find out the winner here first.
