Mike Love Open To Beach Boys Reunion

Mike Love has kick-started speculation about a Beach Boys reunion by saying he’d be up for a tour if they had some new material to take onto the road.

Brian Wilson and Love were last seen publicly together at the Capitol Radio Tower to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the seminal Pet Sounds in 2006. This led many news agencies to speculate a possible reunion.

Now, in an interview with Record Collector, he hasn’t played down such talk. He said: "A reunion would have to begin with Brian and I writing together. As far as I'm concerned, I think the first step would be to create some new music, and the chemistry of Brian's innate abilities and mine combined in such a way that we could really be of mutual benefit to each other, creatively."

In the same interview, he said that the relationship between himself and guitar player Al Jardine have improved with time. The pair have previously been involved in legal fights.

Love finished: “Alan and I are both the guys who stuck with meditation. So, we have that in common and, philosophically, I think we're a lot closer then people would think. There've been some residual legal issues going on, but this too shall pass.”

    • I’d tend to disagree. And that very attitude is what keeps groups apart. Presenting Wilson/Love compositions would be the only fitting way to do a reunion.

    • I really don’t want a reunion if Mike is going to be involved. But since Mike was such a big part of the group, a reuinion will have to involve him, so, no reunion, please! Why can’t Mike write any songs with his lapdog Bruce? Saying he needs Brian to write songs with just makes it look like Mike’s a hack and that Brian is the talented one. Which is true, but I didn’t think Mike would’ve ever admitted that.

    • C'mon guys - you gotta put aside your legal disputes and get back together again. Dennis and Carl are gone, please don't keep procrastinating on this. My Webster's dictionary still defines "harmony" as: "See Beach Boys"!! Your fans have waited long enough!! Individually, you can fill the 4,000 seat amphitheaters, but together, you fill the Blossom Music Centers of the world.

    • I recently saw Mike Loves Beach Boys, They were phenominal. they brought the house down. A reunion with Brian would be the greatest thing for the fans. I think they should get on the stage together and do their thing one more time . if not for themselves then do it for us.. (Leave the Ego's backstage)...
