BBC To Revive Classic Annie Nightingale Radio Show

The BBC are to revive Annie Nightingale’s classic request show for one night only to mark the radio stations fortieth anniversary.

The DJ’s former show – which allows listeners control over the playlist – will broadcast on September 30th at 7pm.

The show originally launched in 1982 and followed the chart show every Sunday for twelve years.

Listeners were encouraged by Nightingale to send requests in for songs using unique methods. Some of the more famous requests were written on a house brick and a paper prayer mat.

Describing the show, Nightingale said that it was a “cult listen,” and told the BBC that its format appealed because it was "quite weird and quirky."

She added: "For me, getting so much mail - so many hilarious, poignant, witty, daring communications - was like Christmas every week, I read every single one and I loved doing that."

Despite being 65, Nightingale still presents an acclaimed late night dance show for the radio station.
