Back in 2005 The Dead 60s were leading a ska revival, hailed as the 21st century Specials. Two years on and they’re back - and it's immediately clear the Liverpudlians have taken a markedly different path from their earlier offerings. It’s less ska - more melody and guitar pop - but there’s still a rawness and urgency to vocals commanding “stand up, stand up for your man”. Perhaps its biggest strong point is it’s catchy through its repetition - whether this will grate after umpteen listens is left to be seen. But for now at least, 'Stand Up' is a rousing call to action when things aren’t going well.
