Mel B: ‘My Husband’s Not A Wife Beater’

Mel B has hit back at claims that her new husband, Stephen Belafonte,  is a wife-beater.

The Spice Girl has defended Belafonte after it emerged that he was alleged to have beaten up an ex-girlfriend in 2003.

Speaking for the first time since the pair got married, Mel B, denied the accusations against her husband.

"Everything I stand for is about being a strong, independent woman, so for him to be seen as a wife beater is devastating for me because he's not - he never has been."

"They're trying to make him out to be this aggressive, violent, woman batterer and he's not," explained the Spice Girl. "If you read those police reports, they never say he physically beat up a woman."

Yahoomusic reports that Mel B was aware that Belafonte had attended a domestic violence programme before they got married in June this year.
