A gun that was once owned by Elvis Presley has been stolen from a museum at the singer's former home in Memphis.

The handgun was taken from a display case at the Elvis After Dark museum at Graceland as fans gathered to remember Elvis 30 years after his death.

The theft was discovered on Friday and CCTV shows a man taking the gun from the case as fans gathered for a candle light vigil outside Graceland.

A visitor to the museum later noticed that a glass panel on the case had been unfastened and staff then checked the video footage.

Elvis died on August 16 1977 after a heart attack and was buried in a the grounds of his Graceland mansion.
