Carl Barat and his band Dirty Pretty Things have received permission to play a Bank Holiday gig in London’s Pentonville Prison.
Barat will be returning to an institution he last entered as a visitor four years ago to see his former Libertines bandmate Pete Doherty.
The ‘Johnny Cash’ style concert will take place a week on Monday, 27 August, and also feature rent-a-gobs The Enemy.
The event has been organised by the Wasted Youth campaign to highlight the high instances of suicide amongst young men in custody.
Barat’s publicist says, “They asked Carl to do it and told us how many young males are killing themselves every year, especially in prisons. It was a case of 'Hang on, what can we do about it?'"
