Foals are set to take the bold step of not including any of their currently released singles on their debut album.
Speaking to Gigwise yesterday front man Yannis Philippakis and keyboard player Edwin Congreave revealed that the tracks ‘Hummer’ and ‘Mathletics’ would not feature on the record which is set for release next March.
Yannis explained: “Songs like Hummer and Mathletics won’t be on it (the album). It’s mainly new stuff and that’s the way we wanted to do it.
“We write a lot of songs and we don’t see the point of reigning ourselves in like that.”
Edwin explained further by adding: “They are from a different time; it was one of the first songs we wrote last summer (Hummer).
“It’s not the kind of stuff we want to be doing; it would be out of place on the album”.
Summing up his feelings about the decision Yannis went on to say: “So many bands these days release four or five singles and then release the album and you’ve already heard half of it.
“Why would I want to buy that album?”
Foals latest single ‘Mathletics’ is out on Monday (August 20), two more singles will be released before their debut album - one of which will be ‘Balloons’.
