Iggy Pop: ‘Americans Are Scared And Crazy’

Iggy Pop has said that everyone in America is “scared and crazy” because of the urbanisation in the country.

Talking about being seen as a ‘symbolic figure,’ Pop added that “if people don't know you they won't even smile at you when they walk down the street anymore.”

The Stooges frontman also admitted that his status in the music industry had made it harder to write new material over the years.

Iggy & The Stooges released their first new album for thirty years, ‘The Weirdness,’ earlier in 2007.

“It's harder,” Pop explained to Pitchfork. “Two problems: A conversation like this is a huge distraction that I have to deal with. I try and get it done and keep it away from the actual tour. That's one thing. Another is to keep it away from writing or recording time. You try not to let it all meld.”

He added: “Then there's the other kind wherein you become more known in the world and you're walking around and people just know who you are. You can't get away with shit and you never know when they're gonna know who you are.”
