Formed in New York City, August 1974, Blondie defined a fusion of disco hedonism and punk aesthetics that has proved influential throughout the decades since. Singer Debbie Harry, formerly of Wind In The Willows, and guitarist Chris Stein (out of Harry’s previous group, The Stilettos) started the band, and brought in their drummer, bassist and keyboard players over the next year.
Blondie released their first album, aptly entitled 'Blondie', in 1976, and their second album, 'Plastic Letters', the following year. The band then turned to UK producer/songwriter Mike Chapman for their third album, 'Parallel Lines' (1978), which eventually broke them worldwide.
With number one hits ‘Heart Of Glass’, ‘Atomic’, ‘Call Me’ and ‘The Tide Is High’ among many others, Blondie became the most commercially successful band that emerged from the punk/new wave movement of the late 1970s.
The band broke up in October 1982, but have since reformed (in 1998) and are still together today. Their latest offering – The Curse Of Blondie – was released in 2004.
