Ice Cube Attacked By New Zealand Politician

Calls for show to be cancelled…

August 07, 2007 by Jason Gregory

A New Zealand politician has called for US rapper Ice Cube’s upcoming show in the country to be cancelled because the rapper “promotes gangs, gang violence and drugs."

Ice Cube is scheduled to appear at Auckland’s Telstra Pacific Centre on August 22nd - although the show is now in doubt.

Len Brown, who is running for Mayor of Manukau, a suburb of Auckland, said that Auckland didn’t want the rapper to appear.

"Why is Ice Cube coming to the Telstra Pacific Centre on 22 August this year? We don't want him. We don't need him. He is not welcome here,” said Brown.

"Ice Cube brings a gangsta message to our community via his gangsta rap. This message promotes gangs, gang violence and drugs.”

Brown then stated: "We don't want this in our homes. We don't want it on our streets.”

New Zealand is not the first southern hemisphere country to voice its concern over rap music in recent months. The Australian government revoked Snoop Dogg’s request for a work visa in April, reports yahoo music.
