One of Prince’s tour advisors has responded to those who criticised the singer for releasing his latest album for free as part of a Sunday Newspaper supplement.
The Sunday Mail released three million copies of Prince’s new album, ‘Planet Earth,’ last month as part of its UK distribution, against the wishes of Prince’s record label in the UK.
Speaking about the release, Pail Gongaware, said that Prince wanted to “speak directly to the UK” with his latest album.
‘Planet Earth’ has since gone to appear on illegal file sharing sites on the internet ahead of its worldwide release - much to the resentment of the music industry.
Gongaware said, however, that Prince didn’t think twice about making the album available to UK fans.
He said. "The Mail (On Sunday) approached us about doing a greatest hits CD. Prince instantly said, 'Lets do the new CD instead.'
"He's a true artist. He didn't think about anything other than it was a chance for 3 million people in the U.K. to hear his new music. That's all he really wanted.
"His plan was not to upset the music industry, but instead speak directly to a U.K. audience. It was a way to get his music not just to fans, but to people who may never have heard any music from him before," reports Yahoo.
