Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump has revealed that the band’s new material has been inspired by Green Day.
Despite the band’s last album, ‘Infinity On High,’ only being released earlier this year, Stump admitted that he’s already “got a bunch of songs written” but added that he wants to give the last album some “space” before recording them.
Talking to Billboard in New York, Stump also revealed that the new songs have been inspired by past comments made by Green Day frontman Billy Joel.
"He (said he) didn't want to play four-chord punk rock for the rest of his life. If anybody knows anything about punk rock more than Billie Joe from Green Day, I don't know who it is. So I looked at that and their growth, and I think about how honest that is.
“They're really just true to what they are, and so that's how we are,” added Stump. “I think we'll change stylistically, but at the end of the day, that's just something you wear. You're still yourself."
Meanwhile, Fall Out Boy will return to the UK with an appearance at London’s Hammersmith Apollo on August 22nd, ahead of an appearance at the Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festival (August 24th-25th).
