A play which charts the career of DJ and broadcaster John Peel will get its premiere at the upcoming Edinburgh Festival.
Written by Paul Hodson, ‘Teenage Kicks,’ follows Peel’s story from "a well-spoken idealistic hippy into a down-to-earth DJ."
Peel - who died unexpectedly from a heart attack in October 2004 – has long been regarded as one of alternative music’s most iconic figureheads.
Consequently, Hodgson has admitted that those who came to audition for the role knew that they had a lot to live up for.
"They were bottling it,” he said. “Even the ones we had were saying, 'This is the worst audition I've ever come to.' They were scared shitless."
‘Teenage Kicks’ will begin at Assembly Universal Arts Theatre on August 3rd.
