It’s no surprise that this track reeks of Alex Kapranos. With the Franz Ferdinand frontman on production duties, he has evidently passed on the gift of cutting edge guitars on to the Wakefield trio. However, it’s not totally lost the personality of the brothers Jarman with the defensive shouts and feeling of unpredictability still holding court in their latest material, proving that getting Kapranos on board was a rather wise move. Well a much wiser one than the time Ryan decided to dive onto a table of glass bottles.
With jaunty punky pop being celebrated on playlists everywhere, 'Moving Pictures' is a very 'now' track which should see it reach the level of popularity it deserves. When The Cribs aren't tirading about the state of indie music today, their songs - especially this one - is bloody good festival fodder that sits well amongst the soggy trays of noodles, spliffs and weak warm beer.
Released 30/07/2007 on Wichita Records.
