The Hives Make Storming UK Return In London

The Hives made an emphatic return to the UK tonight (July 24th) as they showcased tracks off their forthcoming album.

Arriving in London after playing a number of European Festivals over the last month, the show – in the tiny 100 Club on Oxford Street – marked the bands return to more intimate venues as they aired tracks of their as-yet-unnamed fourth album – the follow-up to 2004’s ‘Tyrannosaurus Hives.’

Taking to the stage, the band ploughed through a number of new songs before Pelle Almqvist – the band’s exuberant lead singer – declared to the crowd that “The Hives are back in town.”

On fine form throughout the show, Almqvist and the band’s guitarist Nicholaus Arson exchanged endless 60’s rock n’roll banter with the crowd, with the lead singer at one point saying that “it feels good to be back in the warm climate and good houses prices of Central London.”

As expected, fans reacted raucously – at one point invading the stage – to song’s taken from the band’s back catalogue, including, ‘Two Timing Touch And Broken Bones,’ ‘Walk Idiot Walk,’ and ‘Hate To Say I Told you So.’

As the band left the stage – with drummer Chris Dangerous being carried aloft to the dressing room by the crowd – Almqvist remained in the crowd before clambering on stage to declare: “We could play you fifty more songs and you’d still be wanting another encore.”

After the lead singer called them to the stage, the band played a two track encore, finishing with the new song, ‘Let It Go.'

As we reported earlier, The Hives will also play Hoxton Bar And Kitchen in London tomorrow (July 25th). Tickets for the intimate show have already sold out.

    • Oh my gosh!! I was there at the very front of the gig, and there are no words to describe the atmosphere, it was absolutely awesome. Chuffed that the guys came out for a meet and greet afterwards. The bruises are definitely worth it. We welcome back the hives with open arms!!
