Enter Shikari branded their homecoming show in St Albans last night as “the best gig they’ve ever played” - despite the performance almost being cancelled at the last minute.
The one-off show at Albans Arena – which had been organised to raise money for St Albans' Pioneer Youth Centre and featured a number of local bands - had been under threat after the local council voiced security concerns over crowd numbers.
As well as an increased police presence outside the venue, up to “twenty” plain clothes police officers were reported to be in the audience during the show.
Playing songs off their debut album, ‘Take To The Skies,’ in front of an intense crowd, a fan told Gigwise that despite the extra security “everyone was looking out for each other and it was more about watching the local talent.”
The fan added: “The Band were thanking everyone for supporting live gigs (in St. Albans) and not just watching youtube channels and pics on facebook.”
The band were also asked by St Albans local council to pay £2000 out of their budget to supplement the extra security that was put on for the event.
