Editors frontman Tom Smith has hit out at people who continue to brand the band as a “second rate” version of Interpol.
Despite their second album, ‘An End Has A Start,’ reaching number one in the UK charts, the record has still seen them compared to the likes of Interpol and Joy Division.
“When people just dismiss us as a second rate whoever, of course it pisses you off,” Smith told Gigwise. “I’ve got to be honest, vocally there is a similarity there and that’s fine but even if I listen to a lot of ‘The Back Room’ it doesn’t sound anything like Interpol. It really doesn’t, it really doesn’t.”
He continued: “What amazes me is that we still get that on this record (‘An End Has A Start’) and this record sounds absolutely nothing like Interpol or Joy Division and if you’re a music journalist saying that then you’re deaf, you really are, you should get another job.”
On the subject of Music journalists, Smith also talked candidly about the mixed reviews that the band’s second album had received in the media.
To read that and hear Smith discussing everything from their latest album to touring with Franz Ferdinand, however, you'll have to wait for the full feature to appear on Gigwise tomorrow.

Poor man’s interpol!
phenomenal band until you see them live do not ****ing comment. carrasfe, you bore the shit out of me.
- They are so dull. Another bloody Starsailor and where are they now?

- Seen them live, and they’re far from a second rate Interpol... Its more like a fifth rate.

- Editors are a truly special band live and on record. Interpol comparrison is more far-fetched than ever now after this second album!
