Ah, another week and another bunch of new wave revivalists hoping to jump on the coat tails of Robert Smith twenty years too late. Here, in a seemingly self-deprecating twist, vocalist Sam Robson claims that he’ll “never go retro” – ironically underscored by a throbbing ‘80s beat of course. However, whilst ‘Disco/Retro’ effectively plays everything by the book - slashed guitars, crashing cymbals and pulsating bass line are all accounted for – it’s that nagging Rapture-style rhythm manages to elevate the mix above the ordinary. Just.
