And the award for 07’s most watered down example of indie electronica goes to… We jest, because if you take away this writer’s jibes you have in the Broken Dolls’ debut an addictively rousing piece of radio-friendly rock – all content with its toe tapping hooks and a few token “uh, uh ohs” chucked in for good measure; venture into the dark side and you will find that the Dolls’ yarn against hard times is more grating then uplifting. Come the “oh no they didn’t” moment of a clichéd chorus, spouting the irksome if it don’t kill you/it will make you stronger, this limp slice of drive time rock is reserved purely for carpet salesmen and the overly optimistic.
