Super Furry Animals have told Gigwise that they have another album worth of new material to release after ‘Hey Venus!’ hits the shelves later this summer.
Speaking backstage at Lounge on the Farm at the weekend, multi-instrumentalist Cian Ciaran said: “From the recording sessions, we’ve got about two albums worth (of material) altogether. The album (‘Hey Venus!’) would have been too long if we’d put it all on.
“They’re not just scraps, the leftover songs will work best as an album together. We’ve got to finish it off first though.”
Asked about their upcoming album, frontman Gruff Rhys added that there’s not one song that stands head and shoulders above the rest. He said: “I like all the songs. They’re quite poppy and quite concise. We wanted the album to be short – there isn’t one song over four minutes.”
'Hey Venus!' is released through Rough Trade on August 27. It's preceded by the single 'Show Your Hand' two weeks earlier.
