Prince’s new album was snapped up by nearly three million people on Sunday as it was given away for free in a Sunday newspaper.
The album, ‘Planet Earth’ was included – against much criticism – in the UK distribution of The Mail On Sunday newspaper.
It’s reported that the newspaper paid the star £250,000 for the distribution rights, although the paper and Prince have been attacked by the music industry who said the move “beggar’s belief.”
Prince’s record company Sony BMG have already pulled their UK release plans for the album, although ‘Planet Earth’ has been hailed by some as the star’s best album for years.
Prince’s last album, ‘3121’ only sold 80,000 copies in the UK in 2006, reports the BBC.
