The Runners - 'Get In Line'

You know, there has been a really encouraging influx of actually pretty good guitar bands in the wake of Arctic Monkeys. This year has seen better-than-expected debuts from The Maccabees and The Pigeon Detectives in particular and The Runners, in the wake of this, are not bad at all. They are far from genius and will almost certainly not change your life. As predictable and easy as this single is, it’s very pleasant and really, overall, not at all offensive. The Runners have just enough personality to give them a tiny niche to work in. ‘Get In Line’ does lack any moments of real interest but there is something charming in the sound and the b-side, ‘Familiar Faces’, has the eel-pie intrigue of Mystery Jets and points to a promising future. Indie popping in line with recent Belle and Sebastian releases but with a little extra dirt sprinkled on top and well worth your time.

    Released 16/07/07 on Weekender Records
