Last weekends Live Earth concerts – which took place in seven continents over twenty-four hours – were officially the largest global event in history, according to organisers.
Organised by former American Vice President Al Gore to raise awareness to the growing problem of climate change, the concerts – which included performances by Madonna and Smashing Pumpkins - have so far been ‘streamed’ more than thirty million times via the Internet.
Live Earth’s official online partner, MSN, has also revealed that more than fifteen million streams were watched by eight million people as the concerts were happening live.
Joanne Bradford, corporate vice president and chief media officer of MSN, branded the figures as “a milestone in online history.”
