    Shaun Ryder Flaunts Smoking Ban

Happy Monday’s Shaun Ryder may face a number of penalty fines after he flaunted England’s new smoking ban at a gig in Manchester.

It’s reported that Ryder smoked continuously throughout a gig at The Ritz in Manchester recently, prompting members of the audience to light up as a result.

England has been governed by the new smoking laws since July 1st - with a £50 fine being imposed for anyone caught breaking the law.

Pat Karney of Manchester City Council told the BBC: “The Ritz will get a visit from environmental health straight away."

He continued: "No matter how big he thinks he is, he is not above the law. There will be no breaches of this law in Manchester."

    • Usage Note: Flaunt as a transitive verb means ”to exhibit ostentatiously”: He flaunted his wealth. To flout is ”to show contempt for”: He flouted the smoking ban.

    • People like Ryder should use his position to encourage those who look up to him to comply with the law. He may be able to afford fines but his less well off fans may not. The promoters should also be find the maximum for not preventing him from smoking. This actions shows that the law is needed to stop smokers poisoning all around them when they satisfy their drug adiction as most will not observe a voluntry ban.

    • Ahhh, here come the health fascists, a la Pat Karney, marching yet again that ”they know what’s best for you!”. Gotta love the smell of bigotry against smokers in the morning. And to think anti-smokers had plenty of businesses to patronize throughout England that banned smoking(and that no one forced them to enter places allowing smoking), before the smoking ban took effect... *sigh*
