The departure of a principal member has been the death knell of many a band, but The Concretes have shrugged off the departure of Victoria Bergsman and find themselves, arguably, on the form of their career. 'Oh Boy' features a joyous guitar riff, pounding riffs and harmonies straight from the Belle & Sebastian school of twee, and sounds like a Scandic-tinged Camera Obscura of Aislers Set. The single also features new b-side 'The Sentence', and two diametrically opposed versions of previous single 'Kids': 'Ed's Kids' features piano from Ed Harcourt and allows the tender, fragile lyrics to come to the fore. 'Justin's Kids' (by Justin Robertson and Mark Ralph) meanwhile is a squelchtastic four-to-the-floor Balearic workout. Quite a package.
