    Avril Lavigne Sued For Plagiarism

Skater chick Avril Lavigne is being sued by U.S songwriters for plagiarism on her song ‘Girlfriend’. Surprisingly, it’s not by the guys who gave us “Hey Mickey, you’re so fine”...

Terry McBride, manager of the pop brat said the Lavigne is one of several people named in a lawsuit filed on July 2 that alleges striking similarities to the Rubinoos' song ‘I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend’.

The Rubinoos song came out in 1979 and featured the lyrics “Hey, hey, you, you, I wanna be your boyfriend”, which are very similar to Avril’s “Hey, hey, you, you, I don’t like your girlfriend

“Avril's a great songwriter and she's proving it over and over and over again,” said McBride.

He goes on to say “Avril's very, very sensible. She knows music well. If the chords had been similar, the melodies had been similar, lyrics had been similar, the meter, she would have gone, ‘Okay, I can see their point.' But nothing's similar.”

    • well, i don’t really like the song. Let me rephrase that. I really HATE that song, its as annoying as ”Umbrella”. There are better ones on the album. But this seems to mirror a situation with dan brown and those guys from ”Holy Blood, Holy Grail”. Now that she has success they sue her... the song came out in February...

    • The chorus is identical though. Chords, melody, meter and words.

    • Well, no real surprise here, so many times in the past we have seen how people will react when an artist/musician becomes very successful. It’s is an ugly part of our human nature and in the music world professional jealousy or envy goes way back, Salieri had it for Mozart, etc. Great success breeds jealousy, envy and contempt. It is sad to see jealousy rearing its ugly green head when a fellow artist in a weak moment of character lashes out against those who are more successful than they
