David Cameron Calls For Curb On Violent Music

Tory leader David Cameron is calling on music industry executives to act responsibly and to curb the amount of violent lyrics in music.

Cameron believes that music is intrinsic in shaping children’s attitudes and says that labels have a responsibility in the type of music they promote.

The Conservative was speaking at the annual meeting of the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) when he made the plea.

In return to labels acting responsibly, Cameron says he will extend the current 50 year limit on copyright (a law which is due to affect many major artists, including The Beatles) to 70.

He said:  Is some music, are some lyrics, are some videos and are some artists, helping to create a culture in which an anti-learning culture, truancy, knives, violence, guns, misogyny are glorified? Yes.

"Can we see the effects of this on our young people, in our schools and on our streets? Yes.

"Do we think we can combat this culture by government policies, policing and criminal justice alone? No."

Cameron continued: "Put simply, we have to acknowledge that all of us - as politicians, as teachers, as parents, as television producers, video game manufacturers and yes, as record industry executives - need to understand our specific responsibility in not promoting a culture of low academic aspiration or violence but instead to inspire young kids with a positive vision of how to lead their life.

"That's why I am not calling for censorship, legislation or the banning of content.

"I am calling on you to show leadership, exercise your power responsibly and to use your judgement."

  • Yeah just give us a policy flavour David, you vacuous puffin. And what a malignant deal: unelected, unaccountable beak head turds get to take a lead in moral censorship in exchange for preventing the doors from opening on the sampling and mangling of all those amazing ’60s sounds. A mutual masturbation sesh of public schoolboys looking to put the kibosh on creativity.
