The South American leg of Live Earth has been axed over safety fears.
The huge gig on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro has been cancelled by a judge in the city after it was deemed that the police may not be able to cope with numbers –estimated to be up to 1million people.
However, organisers are set to launch an appeal and are hoping to overturn the judges’ decision.
The company behind the show Mondo Entretenimento said in a statement it was "working to guarantee the realisation of this important international event."
The show was due to feature the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Macy Gray and Pharell Williams. It was one of eight cities hosting the climate change awareness shows.
The concert in Instanbul, Turkey has already been axed due to a lack of interest in the event.
